Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Nautic Concept the Most Maritime

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Nautic Concept has been unveiled at the Paris Boat Show, which runs from December 3-11. Created by the designers of Style & Design, it is an all-rounder with the finishes of a luxurious boat. At the moment, we do not know if it will go on sale.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2.8 CRD Rubicon ... One name evokes endless adventures. It refers to a 35-kilometer trail in the American Wild West, about 80 miles northwest of Sacramento, in the beautiful and mighty Sierra Nevada mountains. Try to upgrade your vehicle with the Jeep Wrangler aftermarket headlights, it worths. The rugged and wildly romantic road changed its own destiny in August 1953: at that time 155 madmen, tucked into 55 Jeep brand SUVs, threw themselves across their own Rubicon. I'm just telling you that they needed two days to travel 35 kilometers! Today's Jeep Wrangler bears the Rubicon name with all the pride in the world.

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2.8 CRD Rubicon comes, as standard, equipped to the teeth, a detail that greatly enhances the racing capabilities of this great model: special reinforcement against deformations caused by shocks, an extreme 4: 1 reducer to get the most out of it. advantage of the terrain, two 100% axle locks for maximum traction, an electric front decoupler to increase the travel distance of the axles, which are a reinforced Dana 44 for greater robustness. Despite the enormous battle of 2.95 meters, the equipment of this four-door allows it to face the worst imaginable roads.

The two-door Jeep Wrangler, which is half a meter shorter, does everything much better, because it is lighter and, because its wheelbase is shorter, it is less likely that its belly will hit the ground. The four-door, on the other hand, does it much more frequently and the annoying creaking of its crankcase protection plate makes, for the most sensitive, their blood boil. If, on the other hand, you are one of those who do not care, for you it can continue to creak all your life: this Jeep is never going to break.

Although the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2.8 CRD Rubicon with four doors is not, of the two, the most suitable car to put it only through the field, the Rubicon is the most interesting option. Like other Wranglers, this four-door is a convertible ... a convertible, as they say today. There is no version with a cloth top, on Land Rover or on Mercedes. And if you also want a Jeep with a fixed roof, you have to buy a hardtop (929 euros) made of plastic that must be screwed on. However, to put it on, it is the strength of several men, so you better take it to a workshop ... Removing it is not a much simpler task. It's also true that a hard top robs you of exclusivity. The only four-door convertible sold in the Spanish market stands out for its hood.

In any case, don't expect too much convertible-style comfort from the Wrangler Unlimited: while a folding top of this size is almost an engineering masterpiece, that doesn't mean you can enjoy every ray of sunshine instantly. First you have to unzip the rear side, open a couple of zippers on the front window frames, push back the front third of the hood, open two more zippers at the height of the B-pillar, roll back the hood pack and leave it on the tailgate. If you practice a little, it will take about a minute ... Greasy nails are inevitable.

Before leaving with the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2.8 CRD Rubicon, you'd better watch the time on TV, because to close it you need almost twice as long and it would be nice if a second person helped you so you don't have to pick up the roll on your own. the hood and unroll it: it is huge and weighs its own. Still, the Wrangler Unlimited is a great car to use every day ... Well, it's clear that the interior is not 100% theft-proof, as anyone can unzip from the outside. However, it is a car capable of carrying four or five people with their luggage, since Jeep has raised the load capacity from 340 to 405 kilos. It is not a spectacular figure, but it greatly improves its usefulness for day to day. Of course, Jeep has been able to optimize the teamwork of the engine and the gear change.

The Mercedes automatic transmission makes the VM turbodiesel pull the car, instead of making it spin like crazy: that is something that undoubtedly helps reduce consumption. However, the 8.8 liters / 100 km that the manufacturer promises are nothing more than a utopia, which can only be achieved by driving like a truck on the highway and with the air conditioning turned off. It is rare to go below 10 liters / 100 km and, during our test, the figure reached 11.5 l / 100 km.
