How to Install XJ Cherokee Brake Boosters

Adding a brake booster to your Jeep Cherokee XJ's brake system makes leaving the truck easier. When this booster goes off, that extra power goes away, leaving you with a hard hit on the brake pedal and a vehicle that's hard to stop. To fix that problem, the faulty brake booster must be removed and a replacement installed. Do remember to check the Jeep Cherokee xj led headlights after you finishing the installation. This should take about an hour to do. things you will need

Raise the hood of your Jeep Cherokee. Loosen the bolts holding the master cylinder to the brake booster with an open-end wrench but do not remove them from the booster.

Open the driver's door and remove the trim panel below the steering column using a 3/8-inch drive ratchet and socket. Remove the retaining clip at the top of the brake pedal that secures the booster linkage to the pedal by hand. Drive out the bolts holding the gusset to the chassis with the 3/8-inch drive ratchet and socket.

Remove the vacuum hose clamp from the manual brake booster. Remove the bolts holding the master cylinder to the booster. Slide the master cylinder off the booster and the booster from the firewalls. Insert the replacement booster into the firewall and loosely install the master cylinder for the booster with the stock hardware.

Bolt the booster to the chassis from inside the cab and reattach the booster pushrod to the brake pedal using the original retaining clip. Replace the vacuum hose clamp to the booster and tighten the nuts holding the master cylinder to the booster with the open-end wrench.
